BRAD LEFTWICH 'Say Old Man'

Description
A thorough listening to this wonderfully rich 16-track CD will let you know quickly that old-time music is alive and well in the hands of a younger generation of musicians who have learned well from the masters who were with us not so many years ago. Unlike many of this younger generation who have problems with singing, Leftwich has a rich & pleasant voice which he uses to good advantage in an unpretentious, unselfconscious way on songs like KITTY WELLS, ARE YOU GETTING THERE RABBIT and CAN YOU DANCE A TOBACCO HILL. This adds variety to a superb program, making the instrumentals stand out even more. Linda Higginbotham’s banjo-uke is an unexpected but thoroughly appropriate & effective complement to Leftwich’s wonderful fiddling. No weak cuts on this CD: I cant’ boil my favorites down to less than 7 or 8 cuts-among them the knockout FLANNERY’S DREAM. FLATWOODS, SARO, NUMBER NINE, GETTING THERE RABBIT and CAN YOU DANCE A TOBACCO HILL (a LEATHER BREECHES relative). Great stuff here—highly recommended. RYE STRAW, LAZY JOHN, MAN OF CONSTANT SORROW, TROUBLESOME WATER, etc.
