Description
|
|
A good, strong disc of solid traditional Bluegrass by a band of experienced musicians working out of western North Carolina. It’s been quite a while since we have seen the name of Marc Pruett, a fine 5-string banjo picker who helps to anchor this good 5-piece band. Other members are Tim Surrett (bass, dobro), Darren Nicholson (mand.), Caleb Smith (guitar) and Buddy Melton (fiddle—he also provides most of the lead vocal work). They get some outstanding help on a few numbers from Doyle Lawson, Jerry Salley, Joe Diffie, Tony Rice and Jimmy Van Cleve. The group has some good new material but it’s also nice to hear their versions of no less than 6 dsongs associated with Bill Monroe: COME BACK TO ME IN MY DREAMS, TRAVELING THIS LONESOME ROAD, GOODBYE OLD PAL, CRYING HOLY UNTO THE LORD, I HEAR A SWEET VOICE CALLING and BOAT OF LOVE. A very nice record.
