NEW ROANOKE JUG BAND 'A Pretty Gal's Love'
Type of Product: CD/Tape
Description
This old-time “group” is essentially a young Roanoke, Virginia duo consisting of Scott Baldwin and Jay Griffin who play a variety of instruments between them on this, their 2nd album for Copper Creek. They are most successful on the bluesy songs and tunes on which Baldwin plays finger style guitar, like CABIN RAG, STIR IT GAL, JAILHOUSE RAG, PILGAR’S RUE, GOIN’ TO RICHMOND, SWEET MARIE, and John Hurt’s I’VE BEEN CRYIN’. About half of the 20 pieces are old timey and feature Griffin on fiddle, with Baldwin adding guitar, banjo, harmonica or jug. Most of these are quite nicely done, like LONESOME BLUES, GREENBACK DOLLAR, COLD ICY FLOOR, JOHNNY LOVER, MY WIFE SHE HAS GONE & LEFT ME and the title tune. All in all, a low key, pleasant and enjoyable album.
