Doyle Lawson has recorded a sizable number of gospel albums (none of them less than excellent) over the years, for Sugar Hill, Brentwood, and Crossroads : back some years ago he also put out a couple of records on his own label, and this album is a wonderful disc that is for the most part overlooked these days. It was his eighth full gospel album, with every track a fine piece of material, well-arranged and beautifully sung & played. The 12 songs include some with full Bluegrass accompaniment, some with just mandolin & guitar, and 3 sung a cappella (GOD IS LOVE, THE MIGHTY NUMBER, and the lovely NEARING THE SHORE). Other particularly fine pieces are IT TOOK YOUR BLOOD, COMING TO CARRY ME HOME, and THE LOVE OF GOD. A great disc, highly recommended.
