The Sugar Hill label has taken advantage of it’s recent affiliation with Vanguard/Welk Music to produce this wonderful collection of most of Doc Watson’s finest guitar solos (and duets with Merle). Since first coming to the forefront in the early 1960s, Doc’s name has always been associated with cleanly played, technically superb & thoroughly musical guitar work. Doc did have one album devoted exclusively to guitar tunes (Flying Fish-30l, still available, $ 13.00), but it’s a joy to revisit the well-known classics heard here & recorded over a span of 34 years, many from his early Vanguard LPs. Beautifully packaged, this is a must for any acoustic guitar enthusiast! 16 cuts.
