Product Description

McFarland & Company Inc. Willard Gayheart and Donia S. Eley 191 pages. Gayheart, born in Kentucky but living most of his adult life in the Galax area of Virginia, is a noted artist whose fine pencil drawings mostly depict various aspects of Appalachian life. Gayheart is also a musician whose playing days go back to the legendary Mountain Ramblers and an early bluegrass band, the Highlanders. He is currently a member of the group Alternate Routes. One reason that this book will appeal to many of our customers is the fact that so many of Gayheart's drawings pertain to musical subjects. Among the varied personalities drawn by Willard are Bill Monroe, Tommy Jarrell, Doc & Merle Watson, Kilby Snow, Luther Davis and Wayne Henderson among others. The more than 70 pictures depict craft people, families, scenery and local traditions.
