The 17 tunes here—all banjo solos—were gathered and recorded by Koken mostly in the last two years, but there is a fine cut of CHINQUAPIN PIE that was recorded at a concert way back in 1967—Koken’s driving treatment of that piece is in sharp contrast to his recent playing, which is more mellow and easy going—the inclusion of this tune is quite impressive & instructive. Koken also includes a good version of MAPLE LEAF RAG—a piece that requires a considerable amount of skill and knowledge of the banjo. Walt also sings on a few tracks. A well done and enjoyable disc for any who enjoy old time banjo. DOWN SOUTH BLUES, BANJO ON THE HILL, WORRIED BLUES, FRANKIE & ALBERT, etc.
