STANLEY BROTHERS 'Long Journey Home' REB-1110-CD
Originally recorded back in 1963 by Ray Davis and issued as part of a radio package on his Wango label, this remains to date one of the most distinctive & successful of the many Stanley Bros. recordings. Davis caught the brothers at their soulful best on a selection of particularly interesting material--among the 16 songs here are some classics that they never recorded elsewhere and seldom got to perform. Songs like TWO MORE YEARS, RAMSHACKLE SHACK, WILD & RECKLESS HOBO, YOUR SADDLE IS EMPTY OLD PAL and I'LL BE TRUE TO THE ONE I LOVE alone make this a must for any Stanley fan; every cut is first rate. No fiddle or mandolin here; the emphasis is on George Shuffler's guitar and Ralph's banjo. While perhaps not as dynamic or exciting as their classic Mercury & Columbia recordings, these are unique & highly successful in their own way. Great siounds and highly recommended. WILL YOU MISS ME, RABBIT ON A LOG, PRETTY POLLY, PIG IN A PEN, NO LETTER IN THE MAIL TODAY, EAST VIRGINIA.
