Old-Time music icon, Uncle Dave Macon plays old-time banjo and sings. This CD is partly a combination of County's two fine Macon LP's (County 521 & 545), containing 18 songs, a few of which were on neither of the LPs. Much of the material here is from Uncle Dave's classic recordings with the Fruit Jar Drinkers (Maizi Todd & Sam & Kirk McGee) --some of the finest string band recordings of the "golden age" of old-time music. Macon's huge & fascinating repertoire is well represented by such pieces as TOM & JERRY, OH BABY YOU DONE ME WRONG, OLD TIES, BACKWATER BLUES, SAIL AWAY LADIES, CARVE THAT POSSUM, ROCK ABOUT SARO JANE, GREY CAT ON THE TENN. FARM, I'M GOIN AWAY IN THE MORN, HOLD THE WOODPILE DOWN, etc. A wonderful collection with notes by Bill Knowlton.
