This is a re-issue of the second of two old VETCO LPs cut by Wiseman in the 1970s (the first is also available as CR-1067): these were originally issued at a time when Wiseman's classic old DOT recordings were not available, and included "new" versions of many of the songs that Wiseman had made popular in the early & mid 1950s. Wiseman used the Shenandoah Cutups (Tater Tate fiddle, Billy Edwards on banjo and John Palmer on bass --with the addition of Buddy Griffin on second fiddle and Tommy Boyd on dobro) and they did an excellent job on such songs as FIREBALL MAIL, FOUR WALLS AROUND ME, LITTLE HOME IN TENNESSEE, GIRL OF MY DREAMS, SHACKLES & CHAINS and YOU CAN'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. Making the album even more appealing was the inclusion of superb versions of some songs never previously cut in full Bluegrass fashion by Wiseman, LETTER EDGED IN BLACK, ROANE COUNTY, and MARY OF THE WILD MOOR. Sound quality is weak by today's standards but there is a lot of excellent music here.
