Plum River Records is proud to announce the release of My Hope Is in the Lord, a brand new all gospel project from Jacob Underwood. The project features 12 songs, combining familiar hymns and original gospel songs. The first single, “Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus” reached #8 on the Bluegrass Today Gospel Weekly Airplay Chart. Jacob sings all the lead vocals and plays all the banjo, mandolin and guitar on the project. Jacob is joined by several special guests on the project. Matt Wallace, veteran of Paul Williams’s Victory Trio, David Parmley & Continental Divide, and Audie Blaylock & Redline, is one for of today’s most highly esteemed upright bassists and he lays down a solid foundation and good groove for the project. Ron Stewart, one of the most sought after multi-instrumentalists in bluegrass and notably of The Seldom Scene, Boxcars, JD Crowe & The New South and Lynn Morris Band fame, provides most of the fiddle for the album. Justin Moses, another of the top multi-instrumentalists in bluegrass music who has played with Sierra Hull, Blue Highway, Dan Tyminski, and the list goes on, brings his tasteful dobro to the project. Paul Brewster, perhaps the premier tenor singer in bluegrass music who spent 25 years with Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder and nearly a decade with the legendary Osborne Brothers, adds his superb tenor vocals to the project. Tim McDonald, Nashville pianist who has recorded with everyone from pop-country artists like Luke Bryan to former Bluegrass Boy Byron Berline, adds piano to three tracks, giving them a more Southern Gospel feel. Tim Crouch, former Grand Ole Opry staff fiddler, sought after session player and former member of too many legendary bands to list, also adds a few fiddle tracks. Jacob’s sister, Emily Underwood, also makes her recording debut on this project, adding high baritone vocals to some of the tracks. Jacob’s dad and bandmate in Bluegrass Express, Greg Underwood, who has sung tenor for Charlie Louvin and spent a couple years playing bass for the Cox Family, adds electric bass to one of the more Southern Gospel flavored tracks.
My Hope Is in the Lord marks Jacob’s third solo release, following his 2020 release As Time Goes By, and his 2015 instrumental release The Banjo Files, both of which received critical acclaim.
