Kirk Sutphin is a fine North Carolina fiddler still who has a love for the old-time music of his native area, and the skill to master it & share it. At home on both fiddle & banjo, he presents a generous 18-tune program that shows influences of his favorites from an earlier generation: Tommy Jarrell and the musicians of the Leaksville-Draper-Spray area of NC (now Eden), like Posey Rorer, Lonnie Austin & Charley LaPrade. He is nicely backed here by Greg Hooven, Paul Brown, Wayne Henderson & Lisa Sutphin. Great to hear these fine tunes played so nicely. HANGMAN'S REEL, FLOP EARED MULE, BABTIST SHOUT, PINEY WOODS GAL, RENO FACTORY, BIG-EYED RABBIT, JOHN BROWN'S DREAM, SWEET LITTLE JULIE.
