The Traditional Grass was one of the key bands on the Bluegrass scene from the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s, and this fine album is a solid and welcome retrospective that includes 15 of the very best cuts that the group recorded in their 10-year association with Rebel Records. The band for most of its career included legendary fiddler Paul Mullins, his son Joe Mullins on banjo, Mark Rader on guitar and the late Gerald Evans on mandolin and 2nd fiddle. (Banjo picker and tenor singer Joe Mullins has gone on to front today's very popular RADIO RAMBLERS band). Excellent straight Bluegrass music here, on songs like ROUGH EDGES, THE SHUFFLE OF MY FEET, GONNA LAY DOWN MY OLD GUITAR, I'LL NOT BE A STRANGER, YOU ARE MY FLOWER, OLD JOE and SHE HAS FORGOTTEN. The compact disc includes an excellent set of notes by Joe's son Daniel Mullins. Highly recommended.
