Product Description

Carl Story recorded some great gospel quartets in his long career, and well may be one of the next entrants into the Bluegrass Hall of Honor. Unfortunately there’s not much of his best work available today, and this re-issue will not do very much to enhance his credentials. Taken from William Jones’ old Pine Tree label, the sound is mediocre at best, and the band is not in great form—musicians who were associated with other, better projects in their careers (Bruce & Lee Jones, banjoist C.E. Ward and the fiddler Frank Hamilton). It sounds like an album that was hastily put together, which seemed to be the case with most of Story’s later work (after his fine Mercury, Columbia and Starday efforts). Songs include HIGHWAY TO GLORY, MOTHER IS OLD, BEYOND THE DARK SEA, NO STRANGER THERE, etc.
