Product Description

Some might relegate this Bluegrass gospel album to the amateur pile and let it go at that, but there is something quite effective and appealing about it, and if good down home music is your thing read on. the "group" is actually a husband and wife duo-Jim & Karina Glaspy from Dublin, Texas. Jim plays guitar, mandolin & bass and actually his picking is not amateurish, he is a talented musician and there's very nice backing throughout the record, despite a curious rolling, rumbling bass & guitar undercurrent that gives the album a distinctive funky sound. The Glaspys are both good singers and most of the vocal work features Karina; she sings everything with an honest, soulful, gentle intensity that will garb you if you have a weakness for good home style music. The album starts off with quite a strange muddy instrumental version of HOW GREAT THOU ART that may leave the listener wondering what is coming next, but then the singing takes over with a lovely duet on the traditional DRAW ME NEARER, and fine performances by Karina on their own COME AS YOU ARE and Dottie Rambo's SHELTERED IN THE ARMS OF GOD. They really get into the title song and I really love their spirited performance of this old Chuck Wagon Gang classic. If you are looking for polished, well-recorded music, this CD won't be for you; but if you want to hear a group that's really into to its own thing and has something to say, try it. RISE UP, CLOSE ENOUGH TO JESUS, JESUS, I LOVE YOU, DO YOU KNOW HIM, AS THE DEER, ALL MY LOVE, SANCTUARY.
