Product Description

There are a sizeable number of folks who never get tired of the classic style of Bluegrass as it was played by the masters in the 1940s and 50s-for most of them this debut album by a new group will be like a welcome breeze, and it may well introduce some of today's musicians to the sounds that are most responsible for most of us being involved with Bluegrass today. Peterson, a good singer, and his very competent band have put together a simply but cleanly produced record of 14 tracks, most of them classics from the repertories of Flatt & Scruggs(THINKING ABOUT YOU, MY DARLING'S LAST GOODBYE, BOUQUET IN HEAVEN), Jimmy Martin(FOGGY OLD LONDON, HOMESICK), the Stanley Brothers(I WORSHIP YOU, THE OLD HOME) and Bill Monroe(I'M TRAVELING ON & ON, BLUE YODEL #3). There's a decemt original instrumental(WALKING TO WESTPORT), a fine redition of the old ballad BUTCHER'S BOY, and Roy McMillan's excellent COLD WIND. Stuart Duncan and Aubrey Haynie play twin fiddles on two cuts, but apart from that it's all Peterson leading a standard 5-piece band that includes Steve Huber on banjo and Charlie Derrington on mandolin. There will no doubt be cries from some critics of "breaks no new gound", "tired old war horses", but on the other hand there will be many who appreciate this well-played, straightforward & thoroughly enjoyable music, and I think you will hear a lot more from this band!
