Product Description

Like a take-off of Noam Pikelny’s tribute to Kenny Baker (“Noam plays Kenny Baker plays Bill Monroe”), McCanless gives this fiddle CD the sub-title “Al McCanless plays Alan Jabbour plays Henry Reed”. Mr. McCanless—from North Carolina— was one of the “originals” in the Bluegrass field in a career that goes back to the mid 1960s— the days of the New Deal String Band and Carlton Haney’s earliest festivals. On this CD he showcases old time tunes rather than Bluegrass— some of the 17 tunes include KITCHEN GIRL, BETSY LYKENS, SALLY IN THE GARDEN, GLORY IN THE MEETINGHOUSE, HOG EYED MAN, etc.
