Recorded between 1925 and 1930, the 16 old-time songs and tunes on this disc represent some of the finest music made by this great artist before he died at the early age of 31. Poole, a great songster and banjo picker, fronted a trio that was legendary in the mountain and piedmont areas of the south. For most of his recordings he was accompanied by Roy Harvey on guitar and either Posey Rorer or Lonnie Austin--both wonderful fiddlers. Some of the great cuts here include WHITE HOUSE BLUES, SWEET SUNNY SOUTH, MONKEY ON A STRING, SHOOTIN CREEK, RAMBLIN' BLUES and HE RAMBLED. Wonderful old-time music.
