There haven't been any "weak" Del McCoury albums--his music is so natural & real that it's always highly listenable, still this is probably his best outing on Rounder to date. The band, featuring his sons Ronnie & Rob on mandolin & banjo, is superb now and Del, as always, is in fine voice. The material(14 cuts)is perfect for McCoury, and he and the band attack it with an energy & drive that recalls the early days of bluegrass--the type of power that brought many of us into bluegrass in the first place. Hats off to one of the real heroes of Bluegrass! Fine cuts of CHEEK TO CHEEK WITH THE BLUES, THE BLUEST MAN IN TOWN, HOW LONG BLUES and the title tune among others. I'M LONELY FOR MY ONLY, TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES, I KNOW HIS VOICE, MAN WITH BLUES.
