NORMAN BLAKE 'Blake & Rice'

Two of the giants of acoustic music combine here for a wonderful collection that showcases both artists’ vocal as well as instrumental skills.  The record was recorded in the late 1980s (1987?) before Rice developed vocal  problems, so there are 3 of Tony’s vocals here:  LAST TRAIN FROM POOR VALLEY, RIDGE ROAD GRAVEL (both Blake songs) and I’M NOT SAYIN’. Blake sings two songs, GREENLIGHT ON THE SOUTHERN and THE SHIPYARD APPRENTICE, and Blake & Rice duet on NEW RIVER TRAIN, GONNA LAY DOWN MY OLD GUITAR and I’M COMING BACK BUT I DON’T KNOW WHEN.  The other 6 tracks are instrumentals, with a whole lot of neat picking by both musicians.   A fine album—RECOMMENDED!.  $ 13.50
