ALISON KRAUSS 'Two Highways'

This was Alison’s second album and helped to get her amazing career rolling toward superstardom and multiple Grammy Awards (among many others). Though this was recorded in the days before Tim Stafford, Ron Block and Barry Bales (and later Dan Tyminski and Jerry Douglas) fronted her fine band Union Station, she still had excellent backing, and this album (originally an LP) was strictly Bluegrass. Krauss does a good deal of fiddling here, including a solid version of Kenny Baker’s WINDY CITY RAG, and does a fine job vocally on HEAVEN’S BRIGHT SHORE, TEARDROPS WILL KISS THE MORNING DEW and the title song. Jeff White does some stunning guitar work on BEAUMONT RAG, and a good version of WILD BILL JONES provides a nice traditional touch. A very solid album by a great vocalist.
