In their second album for the Pinecastle label, this mixed quartet does a superior job on 16 gospel songs that range in treatment from a full Bluegrass sound (UNCLOUDED DAY, SEND THE LIGHT, STEADY AS MOUNT ZION)to a mandolin/guitar featured sound (ROLL AWAY THE STONE, BEEN CHANGED), to a straight out Chuck Wagon Gang style (HIGHER, GOING HOME) and finishing off with the well done a capella BRETHREN WE HAVE MET TO WORSHIP. The group is helped out with the backup work of Bobby Osborne (nice mandolin), Charlie Cushman on guitar and Terry Smith on acoustic bass. The group features the fine bass singing of Warren Goad and strong overall harmony singing. The group will inevitably be compared to the Chuck Wagon Gang and in that respect the main comment we have is that the alto singer, Shirley Lichtenberg, sounds slightly out of place here with a vibrato-filled, more trained sounding voice than the other 3 singers. In short, the group lacks that measure of "country warmth" that characterized the singing of the Chuck Wagon Gang. Still, a very nice job.
