RICHARD GREENE 'The Greene Fiddler'

RICHARD GREENE 'The Greene Fiddler'

  • $13.50

Made up from five entirely different sessions, this may be a bit inconsistent for all but the most die-hard Richard Greene fans. There is no questioning Greene's formidable talents on the fiddle, and those who prefer his jazzier tendencies will be rewarded here, as most of the cuts here fall in that category. Four songs from a previously unreleased "L.A. Session" have no relation to bluegrass and several cuts from the old BLUE RONDO LP are not much more accessible, though 2 others(OLD IRISH AIR and BACH) are striking. The best parts of the album, for most of our readers, are tunes from Nashville Studio sessions--GREY EAGLE and SOLDIER'S JOY feature Bill Monroe on mandolin along with Lamar Grier on banjo, Peter Rowan on guitar & James Monroe on bass: these are superb, as is the lively LITTLE RABBIT, recorded live in Japan with Rowan, Trischka & Andy Statman. Also from the latter session are RAIN & SNOW and the obligatory tour de force ORANGE BLOSSOM MEDLEY, RAMBLIN', N.P.D, PAGAN ANNIE, etc.
