With the huge amount of recordings Stanley has done over the years, precious little has been presented in the form of thematic albums: this one, devoted to the music of legendary old-timers, GRAYSON & WHITTER works beautifully, as not only did G. B. Grayson live just a few miles from the Stanley homeplace, but Carter & Ralph knew his music well through the duo's recordings. Many of the songs here have already entered the Bluegrass tradition long ago & in fact Ralph has previously recorded classics like TRAIN 45 and SHOUT LULA, but we can't think of any Stanley fan who won't appreciate Ralph's versions of such gems as I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A RAMBLER, HANDSOME MOLLY, HE'S COMING BACK DEAD, ROSE CONLEY and ON THE BANKS OF THE OLD TENNESSEE. Stanley's great current band is in top form here, making this a must for Ralph's many fans. NOBODY'S DARLING, JOKING HENRY, DARK ROAD IS A HARD ROAD, NINE POUND HAMMER
