The core of this "band" consists of just two members: Chris Emerson on mandolin and Ty Bennett on guitar. They are joined on this album of modern "Bluegrass" by an impressive list of more 20 artists including David Grier, Jim Hurst, Sammy Shelor, Tony Furtado, Larry Rice, Terry Baucom, Don Rigsby and Russell Moore. There are a few cuts here that any Bluegrass fan can enjoy, specifically the instrumentals GIVE ME A MINUTE, RUSTY, and CROOKED CREEK ROAD, and one song(THINGS I'VE GOT TO PAY)-these are played with skill and sensitivity. Most of the other 13 songs & tunes are taken into a different realm with mediocre, sometimes pretentious vocals and heavy-handed drums and percussion. The acoustic instruments battle to mesh with piano, saxophone and steel guitar, but for the most fight a losing battle. Those who lean to more modern ideas may well find some good sounds here, but for the most part it's ambitious, adventurous music that does not quite make it. LITTLE JASPER, JUST SO YOU'LL KNOW, MERCY PERCY, GIVE ME A MINUTE, etc.
