LONESOME RIVER BAND 'Looking For Yourself'

LONESOME RIVER BAND 'Looking For Yourself'

Led by the imaginative and determined Tim Austin (whose Ferrum, Virginia studio was already making a strong name for itself in contemporary Bluegrass recording), The Lonesome River Band was on the verge of establishing itself as a leader in the field when it cut this album that featured the excellent singing of Dan Tyminski , some good material and top-flight arrangements. (Its next recording was to be the landmark CARRYING THE TRADITION record) Other strengths of this disc are fine, imaginative picking (including standout fiddling by guest Stuart Duncan). Top cuts include LAURA JEAN (neat use of banjo & mandolin riffs), Randall Hylton’s IT ALMOST FEELS LIKE LOVE, a bouncy arrangement of Bill Monroe’s ROCKY ROAD BLUES, ROCK & ROLL (a gospel song) and a fine a cappella BROTHER JOHN. An excellent album, done with imagination, taste and talent.
