ROU-0403 THE FREIGHT HOPPERS "Where'd You Come From, Where'd You Go?" Here's a new, young band of musicians who might just do today what the Highwoods String Band did a generation ago to foster an interest in old-time music among younger people. They play with spirit, drive and obvious enjoyment, and if they get around the country they may well have an impact. The group's singing is OK, if a bit thin in vocal quality, but it is instrumentally where they shine. They have a bit of maturing to do--a few of the tunes & songs are a bit ragged, but on their best numbers they are to be reckoned with: SANDY RIVER, PRETTY LITTLE GIRL, LOGAN COUNTY BLUES, KENIUCKY WHISKEY and CORNBREAD MOLASSES & SASSAFRAS TEA are great, driving cuts that are worth the price of the record. Neat job by fiddler David Bass & Frank Lee on banjo, with solid guitar & bass adding to the fine overall sound.
