DOC WATSON 'Portrait'
Watson is one of the few artists who simply couldn't or wouldn't put out anything less than a good record and this collection is another in a long string of highly successful recordings that started on Vanguard and continued on Sugar Hill. As usual he presents a good variety of material, mostly old-timey theme or source and does it powerfully with some help from Mark O'conner, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas and of course his right hand man T. Michael Coleman. Another superb, clean production from Sugar Hill. I'M WORRIED NOW, TUCKER'S BARN, BLUE EYED JANE, STORMS ON THE OCEAN, TOUGH LUKE MAN, RISIN SUN BLUES, LEAVING LONDON, GEORGE GUDGER'S OVERALLS.
