LILY MAY LEDFORD 'Gems: Rare Concert & Studio Recordings 1968-1983'

  • $13.50

A lovely tribute album to the late Lily May Ledford, founding member of the original COON CREEK GIRLS who played on the National Barn Dance and the Renfro Valley Barn Dance for many years starting in the late 1930s and recorded some fine old-time music. Lily May sings and plays her clawhammer style banjo here (also fiddle on a couple of tunes) on a variety of old tunes & ballads recorded in different places between 1968 and 1983. The music is interspersed with her fascinating recollections of the old days as she addressed various audiences. A very nicely presented look at the life and music of this wonderful lady from Kentucky. Her master storytelling and traditional banjo, fiddle & singing earned her a National Heritage Award in 1985. Outstanding selection of material.
