MARK O'CONNOR 'Liberty!'
The amazingly accomplished OÕConnor delves again into the classical field with this highly arranged and orchestrated disc that was the soundtrack for the 6-hour PBS special on the American revolution. The music here, which he calls "folk Baroque", will be too heavy and a bit too polite for most of our readers, but itÕs obviously well done and will most likely have a real appeal for those with a classical bent and those curious to see the interaction OÕConnor has with cellist Yo Yo Ma as well as James Taylor and Wynton Marsalis. Of more interest to some will be the old-time flavored cuts of SOLDIERÕS JOY (with Mark Schatz on banjo and Jerry Douglas on dobro), DEVILÕS DREAM and FLOWERS OF EDINBURGH. FREEDOM, BUNKER HILL, SURRENDER THE SWORD, BRAVE WOLFE, SONG OF THE LIBERTY BELL.
