SAMMY SHELOR 'Leading Roll'
SH-3865 SAMMY SHELOR "Leading Roll" I don’t think any banjo player today picks cleaner and with more drive than Shelor, a key member of the stellar LONESOME RIVER BAND, and he has been justly recognized (along with Scott Vestal) as the "Banjo Player of the Year" in 1996 by the IBMA. Appropriately he starts and finishes this powerful album with two regional dance tunes: PRETTY LITTLE GIRL and DARLING CHILD—the type of music he grew up with in southwestern Virginia, and which certainly contributed strongly to his wonderful sense of time & drive. He is beautifully assisted here by an all-star cast that includes Tony Rice, Dan Tyminski, Randy Howard, Ronnie Bowman, Ronnie Simpkins, and Jerry Douglas among others. Five vocals add interest and help to set off the fine instrumentals on this exciting, well produced album. Highly recommended.
