Mike Henderson 'Silver Lining'
Few will have heard of Henderson, who is not a performer, but rather a songwriter—and a good one. It is highly unusual to find an album of all original material that really works: Henderson pulls it off here, thanks to the quality and variety of his songs and a first rate backing job by some excellent musicians: Bill Emerson, Rickie & Ronnie Simpkins, Fred Travers, Steve Spence, Mark Newton and Emory Lester. It doesn’t hurt any that Henderson himself has a nice voice with some character, and sings his songs in a relaxed, mature, smoky style. Most of the songs echo a nostalgic or poignant quality that creates a moody atmosphere that some may find a bit heavy, but others will really appreciate. Especially nice are the cuts OLD RIVER, ONLY A MEMORY AWAY and LAST CALL. An excellent, worthwhile & recommended album. I REMEMBER YOU, THERE IS A RIVER, AUCTION AT THE HOMEPLACE, WALKING BACK TO RICHMOND.
