SF-40097 CLOSE TO HOME "Old-Time Music From Mike Seeger's Collection" Mike Seeger over the years has been responsible for presenting some wonderful (& influential) collections of old-time music --most of them done for the late Moses Asch's amazing Folkways label. This new compilation just reminds us of Seeger's impressive work and gives us some more great listening from a long list of wonderful people. If the 38 tracks here are surplus material from previously issued projects, they certainly do not sound like "leftovers". With interesting notes by Seeger and some nice photos, this fascinating disc (really two discs worth of material) gives us a chance to hear another tune or two by such greats as Dock Boggs, Eck Robertson, Sara & Maybelle Carter, Wade Ward, Kilby Snow, Sam & Kirk McGee, Tom Ashley, Lesley Riddle, Grandma Pearly Davis, and many others. A fine & important old-time collection.
