While there has been healthy number of re-issues of early Cajun music, this is one of the important ones at least for those interested in the classic early sides of this distinctive & infectious music native to just a small part of Louisiana. The early recordings of fiddler Leo Soileau are impressive especially those with the young accordion player Mayeus LaFleur who was to die tragically at the age of 22 just after cutting some of these classic sides in 1928. Other tracks with Moise Robin are powerful as well with soulful vocals. There are other recordings that feature two fiddles. Well remastered by Rich Nevins from exceptionally rare old 78s and with nice notes by Ann Savoy. An important and recommended album for Cajun music lovers. GROSSE MAMA, BASILE, LA VALSE A MOREAU, MA MAUVAISE FILLE, EASY RIDER BLUES, JE VEUX MARIER, CRIMINAL WALTZ, VALSE PENITENTIARE, etc.
