This is a quite amateurish looking production, but the music here turns out to be quite good, in fact excellent in places. It's hard-driving, solid traditional Bluegrass with an edge, with both the picking and singing harking back to the early days of Bluegrass. The group consists of Jeff Michael and Johnny Williams(of Johnny & Jeanette Williams, and a two-tim winner of the songwriter contest at Merle Fest), both of who turn in strong vocals, Lynwood Lunsford(formerly of Lost & Found)on banjo, Victor Dowdy on bass(good tenor vocals), and Ronald Inscore with some mandolin work. Jeff Michael also provides good fiddling. Some rough edges, but overall a solid & enjoyable album of good down-home Bluegrass. The group is at its best on SAD PRISONER'S SONG, WILLIE McGHEE and HARD ROAD I'M TRAVELIN'. Other cuts include BOATSMAN, SWEETEST LOVE, I'LL WEAR A WHITE ROBE, DRIVIN' NAILS IN MY COFFIN, HARD TIMES, WHEN THE TRUMPET SOUNDS, PAGES IN MY MIND, WILLOW GARDEN, etc.
