CARTER FAMILY 'On Border Radio, Vol. 3' ARH-413-CD
Like the previous two volumes in this series, this CD contains another generous sampling of the music that the Carter Family played over the Mexican border radio stations in 1939. There are 25 tracks, and many of them actually contain two different songs or a song & an instrumental. There's quite a variety here: several solos by A.P., trios by Maybelles's girls, June, Helen, & Anita, short but neat guitar/autoharp instrumentals by Sarah & Maybelle, some nice solos by 16 year old Jeanette, and a good sampling of the family. Carter fans will love the fact there are some songs here that the group never recorded commercial. BROKEN ENGAGEMENT, I'LL BE SATISFIED, GOING BACK TO TEXAS, PRISONER'S DREAM and SITTING ON TOP OF THE WORLD. Sound is good. A must for any Carter Family fan. MY VIRGINIA ROSE, ANCHORIED IN LOVE, WINDING STREAM, THE OLD LADIES HOME, etc.
