BLUERIDGE 'Common Ground'
This band includes 3 great Bluegrass artists--Terry Baucom, Randy Graham and mandolinist Alan Bibey--and they can play some great, tough Bluegrass. However after a few plays, this album strikes me as a disappointment, and I can only attribute this to a pretty lacklustre selection of songs. There's not one song here that draws me back for a second listen; neither the melodies nor the lyrics rise above the strictly average. And yes, though newcomer Wayne Winkle is a good singer, I do miss the flavor of Jimmy Haley's voice & singing style. It's not a bad album, and many will still want to have it, but having seen the band in action I can only say don't judge them by this record, they're much better than this. TALK IT OUT, ROSA LEE, SHOOT THE MOON, HIGHWAY BOUND, IT'S SO COLD, I DON'T KNOW WHY, APPALACHIAN QUEEN, NEW ROAD, KATIE'S WINTER LOVE, etc.
