Mac Wiseman was in good form when he recorded this unusual album in Canada well over 25 years ago. Issued on his own "WISE" label, it was intended specifically for the Canadian market and utilized good Canadian Bluegrass musicians including the legendary fiddler Ward Allen (who sadly passed away just two weeks after these recordings were made). All but 5 of the dozen songs pertained to Canada, and Mac's versions of MY NOVA SCOTIA HOME, WHEN IT'S APPLE BLOSSOM TIME IN ANNAPOLIS VALLEY, MAPLE SUGAR SWEETHEART and MY CAPE BRETON HOME are lovely. Other significant songs are BRINGING MARY HOME, LEGEND OF THE IRISH REBEL (which was later reworked to the now famous REBEL SOLDIER by Charlie Moore and then the Country Gentlemen), and MOLLY BAWN (completely different from Alison Krauss' stunning version of the same title on the Chieftains' Down The Old Plank Road album). A good album.
