Here's an absolutely wonderful album featuring the amazing guitar work of one of the hottest Bluegrass musicians to hit the scene in the past few years. He made a name for himself as a member off Ricky Skages' Kentucky Thunder, and on this, his first solo effort, he shows himself to be creative and tasteful as well as technically superb. The 14 pieces he has chosen for this album make a perfect showcase for his talent: there's a bit of jazzy picking, but on good, classic melodies (LADY BE GOOD and MINOR SWING). Then there are 4 guest vocals which give the album a welcome & very effective change of pace Pat Enright does a good job on BLUE NIGHT and there's a lovely duet by Sonya & Becky Isaacs (THE WATER IS WIDE), and Dolly Parton's version here of her SMOKEY MOUNTAIN MEMORIES is a masterpiece. There is plenty of hot picking on tunes like BROWN COUNTY BREAK- DOWN, TATER PATCH, etc. A great album that gets our highest praise.
