Here’s a reissue on compact disc of an LP that was one of our favorites (and best-sellers) when it came out in 1972. It still holds up as a classic instrumental album that we would highly recommend to anyone who likes Bluegrass banjo. Tennesseans Ed Brown and Fred Sullivan play twin banjos on all but one of the 12 tracks, joined by fiddler Billy Womack and some solid guitar and acoustic bass playing. The banjo work is in the chromatic style, and is not only creative and tasteful, but exhuberant in a relaxed and natural way unlike a lot of other chromatic efforts that end up being more mechanical than musical. It’s a treat to hear the group tackle one good tune after another. Great to see this really neat record back in print!
