RED & FRED 'Songs From The Heart Of The Country' CO-721-CD
Here is a limited edition re-issue of a lovely 1969 album that features the music of country comedian Fred Smith and the late Red Rector, who were performing at the time as a duet at radio stations in eastern Tennessee. Playing in a relaxed, down home style that combined an older style of country music with elements of Bluegrass, they were joined by Kenny Baker on fiddle and a local banjo player, Bill Chambers. In addition to wonderful duets like ONE LITTLE WORD, BLUE TOMORROW, THIS IS THE END, and GATHERING FLOWERS FROM THE HILLSIDE, there are 4 fine mandolin instrumentals by Rector, including great recordings of the old Ellis & Bill tunes FOGGY VALLEY and STONEY FORK. Re-issued at the request of Fred Smith, who is still performing in East Tennessee, this is a special pressing limited to 1000 copies. BEFORE I MET YOU, INDIAN WARRIOR, ARE THERE TEARS BEHIND YOUR SMILE, MORE PRETTY GIRLS THAN ONE, COTTON EYED JOE, etc.
