Wakefield, one of the most distinctive, creative & influential mandolin pickers ever in Bluegrass, is now in his mid-60s, and though he has not been heard from in a while, he shows here that he still can cut it instrumentally. Backed by the standard other 4 Bluegrass instruments (including Jon Glik on fiddle) he trots out several interesting originals, including DARLIN' CINDY, CHARL, THE GREEK, BLUEGRASS BAND No. 1 and the title tune. Frank really struggles on the 6 vocals here, and it's questionable if these should have been released, though they do serve to set off the instrumentals. As always there are flashes of genius from the enigmatic & erratic but highly talented Wakefield and there's plenty of interest for those who admire this legend.
