Many "Best-of" collections are far from that, and with all the superb banjo recordings available today we feel sorry for those fans new to Bluegrass who might take a chance on this 15-tune collection. There's nothing memorable here despite the presence of some legendary names like Don Reno, Lester Flatt, Eddie Adcock and Carl Story, and that's a shame because the CMH label has much better material to offer from its extensive catalog. There are three or four good cuts here, mainly Wynn Osborne's FLINT HILL SPECIAL, Lester Flatt's DIXIE FLYER (Kenny Ingram?) and nice cuts by Carl Story and the Pinnacle Boys. Several Don Reno tunes are ruined by heavy percussion. BUCK CREEK, SKYLINE DRIVE, LA GRANGE, PENN. POLKA, I'VE GOT A WOMAN, etc.
