This Alabama old-time band can always be counted on for some great string band sounds and for picking out great old tunes. On this, their 3rd album, Jim Cauthen fiddles on all of the 22 pieces, and he is joined on 2nd fiddle by Ed Baggott on 12 of the cuts. Other members of the rather large group provide guitar, mandolin, autoharp, harmonica & bass. The twin fiddles are powerful and majestic on GRUB SPRINGS, OLD STAGE COACH, ORA LEE/GARFIELD MARCH, EVERIS CAMPELL'S TUNE, BABY BEN, SKIPPIN' CAT, FLOWER'S MILL, and SWEET BAMA. Even a relatively mundane tune like SHOO FLY, gets a royal treatment, and Cauthen's rendition of the Stripling Brothers LOST CHILD is practically indistinguishable from the classic original. The singing on about 9 of the pieces is not a high point, but there's enough great fiddle band sounds to make this another HIGHLY RECOMMENDED WINNER! BAMALONG BLUES MOURNING BLUES, OH DEATH. WALK RIGHT IN BELMONT, STOVE PIPE BLUES, MISSOURI WALTZ, COAL VALLEY etc.
