A wonderful 22 track collection here by the most influential fiddler in country music in the 1930's and 40's. Though not a great singer, Smith handles the nine vocals here in a charming, wistful style, with lovely readings of GYPSY'S WARNING, ADIEU FALSE HEART, LITTLE DARLING and IN THE PINES. But the real feature is still his fiddling and his wonderful assortment of great original tunes like SMITH'S RAG, RED APPLE RAG, FIDDLER'S BLUES, INDIAN CREEK, DICKSON COUNTY, GOING TO TOWN and the twin fiddle K. C. STOMP (on which he is joined by Tommy Magness.) A wonderful set of notes by Charles Wolfe & Barry Poss fills the 20-page booklet, and most of the tunes are backed by Alton & Rabon Delmore. A great collection! BOUND TO RIDE, STRAW BREAKDOWN, HESITATING BLUES, CHEATHEM COUNTY BREAKDOWN, PARIS WALTZ, PEACOCK RAG, etc.
