SCOTTY STONEMAN 'Live In L.A.'

SCOTTY STONEMAN 'Live In L.A.'

  • $13.50

Issued jointly by the Sierra and Rural Rhythm labels, this is a re-issue of an old Sierra LP – it features a live show at the Ash Grove in Los Angeles in 1965, in which fiddler Stoneman was backed by the Kentucky Colonels (Clarence & Roland White). Though the show is a bit ragged and uneven, there are some segments that show some of the genius of the amazing Stoneman. Nine of the 14 cuts are instrumentals, and it’s hard not to “get into” his frenzied versions of CACKLIN’ HEN, LISTEN TO THE MOCKING BIRD, LEE HIGHWAY BLUES and SALLY GOODIN. But his 5:20 worth of EIGHTH OF JANUARY is a brilliant tour de force that is worth the price of the album.
