The distinctive Bluegrass singer Hylo Brown's best recordings were, arguably, those made for the Capitol label in the 1950s. But Brown went on to cut four solid albums for the Starday label from 1961 to 1963, one of them accompanied by the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers. Compiler Gary Reid has done well to select the best 4 songs from each of the 4 original LPs, making this a very solid "Best of" type collection. Included are some of Brown's best tracks, SAD PRISON SONG, HANDSOME MOLLY, ROANE COUNTY PRISONER, HILLS OF GEORGIA, CABIN ON THE HILL, PICTURE IN THE WALLET and a good re-recording of his classic PRISONER'S SONG. A worthy & welcome issue. SILENT PARTNER, TRUCK DRIVING MAN, etc.
