JIMMIE SKINNER 'Doin' My Time'

JIMMIE SKINNER 'Doin' My Time'

  • $135.00

Documenting a relatively minor, but still important country singer, this 6-CD Boxed set is another “Labor of Love” from the amazing Bear Family label. Skinner was one of the real country stylists of the post-war period; he was a superior songwriter and an influential personality through the Cincinnati-based record shop that bore his name (though he was not an owner). He made records for Capitol, Decca and Mercury, but his finest sides were cut for the Cincinnati RADIO ARTIST label in 1949-1950. With a simple yet intriguing down-home style that featured the funky electric mandolin of his long-time sidekick Ray Lunsford, some of these recordings are gems of an early honk-tonk style: WILL YOU BE SATISFIED THAT WAY, YOU DON’T KNOW MY MIND, RAMBLER’S CALL, ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE TRACK and TENNESSEE BORDER. Skinner also wrote DOIN MY TIME, DON’T GIVE YOUR HEART TO A RAMBLER, ANOTHER SATURDAY NIGHT and the fine LET’S SAY GOODBYE LIKE WE SAID HELLO. In 1961 he cut a nice tribute album of Jimmie Rodgers songs in his distinctive low voice that was often compared with that of Ernest Tubb. This Box includes a 92-page hard cover book with loads of color pictures and fascinating discography. It also includes cuts of some demo records and an extensive Skinner interview. A fabulous Box for anyone who loves pure country music of the early post-war years. 6-CD Box plus hard cover book.
