Jesse's new band is a strong group that includes super fiddler Bobby Hicks, Paul Brewster, banjoist Charlie Cushman and Charles Whitstein on tenor vocals. Unfortunately their brilliance does not come through in this new 14-song album, which is marred by some awkward arrangements, plodding rhythm, and much too heavy use of echo. What looks like a good choice of material turns disappointing with strange versions of IN THE PINES, YOU'LL FIND HER NAME WRITTEN THERE and MY MAIL TRIAL IS YET TO COME --all of which sound forced and unnatural. We've heard lots of good things about this band, but we hope it will return to a more basic sound on its next album. SHE'S LOOKING GOOD, PARADISE, FADED LOVE, NEW PARTNER WALTZ, SHOWBOAT GAMBLER, etc.
