HOLLOW ROCK STRING BAND 'Hollow Rock Legacy'
A nicely packaged 2-CD set that presents two of the three albums that feature the mainstays of the Hollow Rock String Band, fiddler Alan Jabbour and banjoist Tommy Thompson. The first of the 2 discs is the old self-titled Rounder LP from 1974 (not to be confused with Hollow Rock's first album for Kanawha in 1968 (now available as COUNTY-2715, $ 13.99). The third, and lesser-known record of the three, came out originally as Flying Fish 260, called Sandy's Fancy and featuring Sandy Bradley on piano & guitar (it is the 2nd of the 2 discs here). Also featuring Jim Watson (on mandolin on the first disc), the set presents many fine old fiddle tunes, most learned by Jabbour from the legendary Henry Reed. A nice, well presented package that will bring back memories for those associated with the early Durham-Chapel Hill NC music scene --one of the first hot-beds of the old-time revival.
